The Jute Tile material (2017) is the result of material research into used jute fibers sourced from the Forbo factory in the Netherlands. Where Laura van de Wijdeven previously incorporated this material into three-dimensional objects such as the Fibre Cube and Jute Light, the wall panel places the emphasis back on its origins. It marks a return to the pure, experimental phase of the material. Due to the manual application process, drying time plays a decisive role in the final result. The artwork thus emerges from a continuous dialogue between artist and material, an essential principle in Laura van de Wijdeven’s practice.
